For those who want to get started in predator hunting, this is the tape to
watch! Those who have been hunting them for years will love this tape as well and
get a few tips that will improve their skills and success.
The video is best described as a fast paced, action filled collection of
coyote and bobcat hunts culminating in about two dozen kills.
The photography is good. Clear focused footage, narrated in a way that lets you
know what is going to happen and later why it happened the way it did so you can
make the correlation between tactic and result. There is no excessive talking and
no wasted footage in walking to the hunting ground or about anything not
pertinent and relevant to the hunt taking place.
The numerous hunt sequences are separated by brief interruptions, where Byron
gives the necessary information on a topic to be demonstrated. The tape then
quickly resumes with more hunting.
The major topics discussed are:
- Scouting
- Setting up
- Calls to use and how to use them
- Guns and loads
- Track identification
The only thing missing, I thought as I noticed myself grinning was, cooking
recipes for the game.
Setting up for predators is very similar to setting up when hunting for the 2
legged kind! Byron teaches you about “avenues of approach” and how to establish
“fields of fire” .
The hunters he calls for can shoot! There are several instances where coyotes
and a bobcat are shot on the run. And most of the shooting is done with our
favorite rifle:the AR15 with a variable magnification scope (2-7X or 3-9X)turned
down to the lower settings.
The quality of the footage is excellent, both in content and technical
quality. No blurry images. Even in the night hunts you can see the eyes and
outline of the animals as they approach the call.
These coyotes come in very close (20-40 yds), and to his cute 9y/o daughter’s
amazement, sometimes within 10 feet. Byron uses cammo effectively to match the
environment, varying from contrasting top and bottom pieces to Ghillie suits. And
the calls used also go from the simple reef diaphragm turkey call to the
sophisticated modern digital call with remote control.
In summary:
This is a great tape for neophyte, as well as experienced
predator hunters. It is a great product and we recommend it without reservation!
For those who want to have the experience with the benefit of a guide, Byron
does a limited number of guided hunts!
