That guy was pretty damn lucky he had his kill switch on. It looks like he made contact with the motor when he hit the water, or at least came close to it.

No kidding.

For the life of me I can't understand what makes people want to cross other people's wake at WOT. I'll admit I don't have the fastest boat, but if I'm crossing a wake I slow down and come off plane on the rare occasion that I do.

Plus from the looks of it his boat had a good amount of chine walking going on already.

He was out of shape from going over the starboard side wake. Then he landed just perfect to catch the port side wake at the wrong time. He did have some chine walking going on too vividly shown by the way he was sawing the steering wheel in other passes. He's a lucky man, not a smart one, just lucky.

I definitely agree.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the thought of hitting something submerged at wide open throttle. Imagine this coming into the boat with you.

Here's the quote that went along with that picture.

This a Champion 203 I saw at the marina in ohio yesterday when I was there buying another Champion 203 ironically I feel bad for the guy, he's having it repaired too. The wood in the transom wasnt rotted at all as you can see, just some bad friggin luck. Hope the guy is ok, i didnt get all the details. I do know the owner of the marina said the rear fishing seat saved his life cuz the motor hit the seat and kinda shielded him from the motor killing him when the steering cables slung the motor right up into the boat. Be safe out there everyone, and use your rear seat !!

I'm not so sure about the "story". That break is too clean and square. It looks like a transom repair gone bad. I also don't see any damage to the leading edge of the lower unit. Lag bolts sticking out of transom piece still attached to outboard is suspicious too. Still a bad day for someone, but I'd wager it was a botched transom repair rather than a high speed impact.
ETA- While hitting an underwater object is nasty, if the transom is sound and the trim system is working properly (the ram has valving inside to "absorb" impact) this should not happen.

If you look close you can see the case for the lower unit is split in two. It very well could be a hack repair job as well, but looking at the color of the wood it might be a little rot in the transom as well. I know Champion stopped using wood a couple of years ago.

I see the exposed lower midsection mounts, but there is just a plastic cover over those. I really can't see any damage to the lower unit itself. The seat hinge obscures some of the lower and the low res pic doesn't help when enlarging the pic. Regardless, I wouldn't try to repair that one. It really looks like it had been repaired in the past, and not well either.
Another question is why didn't the boat sink with that gaping hole in the transom? If it did sink, then why is the motor not in the shop having the water removed from the powerhead as quickly as possible. Something just doesn't jive.

Not to defend the guy that lost the motor, but sometimes you cannot avoid hitting underwater objects. Logs can float just below the surface where you can't see them and we all know about the dreaded icebergs (Titanic).
ETA–– Oh, you meant the guy that flipped his boat..IMO, he's a "newbie" to fast boats.

What a dumbshit (guy in the original video)

big effing motor on a flat bottomed boat (effectively), let's just go full throttle thru a wake.

has he never water skied? or wakeboarded?
I mean seriously.

he's damn lucky to be alive.

hopefully he took some boating lessons afterwards. (cuz he just got lesson 1)
