I'm doing the same, but in hardcopy. I'm still on the lookout for a new version of FM5-34.

The Engineering FMs make good additions to library.

Thats also what I am doing. Finding the info and then printing it off.

I see various manuals at the local gun shows I attend but am unsure of which ones are the most relevant. Does anyone have suggestions for the "must have" most current manuals?

Anything from the Engineering Branch first, I feel. The DoD SERE manual is a freaking joke, I wouldn't waste the five bucks or the printer ink and paper on it.

If you are worried about runnin' and gunnin', then get the Marksmanship FM, and 7-8 on the Infantry Rifle Platoon, as a bare minimum. 7-8 won't be strictly applicable in a "survivalist" view, since you're not likely to have a full rifle platoon, let alone a company or battalion (7-10), but you gotta know how to fight conventional before you can fight effectively unconventional. If you can find them, the SMs and STPS for 11 series, and 18 series would be a God-send to have, sicne they've got every individual skill that an infantry man or a special forces soldier is expected to know described, in pretty good detail.

Really though, I'd look for the engineering ones first, since chances are, the runnin' and gunnin' part is probably gonna be a lot less common than the need to build shitters and bridges.

Additionally, the combat lifesaver FM would be a good investment, as well as any medical corps FMs and STPs.

Sorry, since they went to the new decimal system, I don't know FM numbers anymore.

LOTS of old school manuals here, and I do mean lots of old school manuals:

Site is damn near impossible to navigate much less download anything from using Mozilla Firefox. I have to use Internet Explorer.

By old school manuals, I've downloaded a manual for Army cooks from the 1890s which looked to have applications for cooking with storage foods for large groups in the field, a field fortification manual that describes how to wind your own concertinas out of barbed wire, and marksmanship manuals for the Springfield '03, and Garand that go into much detail about range estimation, estimating wind, mirage, and leading moving targets, as well as target detection and engagement, a US translation of a German WW2 manual on cold weather survival and fighting that goes into a lot of detail on field expedient shelters, and fortifications and such, and much much more.

anyone know, on the html files for example how to save a complete copy of them. For exampl on the golbalsecurity page, they have a lot of html files, and I would like to have copies saved on my end. Is there a convienient way to do this?

have not tried to find many manuals but scribd.com always has a good selection of free material to read. anybody thats into free knowledge should check it out...its has helped me a bunch.
