I don't currently fletch my own arrows, but whatever Jerry at South Shore Archery Supply uses is some tough stuff. He built my arrows, and I shot the same arrow through three deer this year (as well as hundreds of practice shots into a target), and the fletching is still tight as can be with no peeling whatsoever. What gets me is that I can't even see any glue residue. If you plan to order some glue online, give him a call.

I used Fletch-Tite and Bond-Tite for years. Seemed to work fine. Gorilla Glue worked even better. The key to any of them is to clean the shaft well and especially the base of the vane to get a good bond. Acetone works well.

Clean the shaft with rubbing alcohol.
Use Fletch Tite. Happiness ensues.  |

I've been using an all purpose arrow glue from Gateway. It's basically Krazy Glue with a thicker consistency. Never had a fletch or vane come loose or an insert pull out. I keep it in the refrigerator after opening to make it last longer. I've been working on one bottle for over three years like that and it's still as fresh as the day I opened it. I've also been happy with the Jo-Jan fletcher.
Since I like to play with a Zippo lighter, I use napthalene lighter fluid to degrease my shafts. |

how important is it to get the fletching EXACTLY parallel?

It depends on which fletching you are using. Blazers have to have a super glue like "goat tuff". Regular 4 or 5 inch fletching can use the rubber type like Bohning "platinum". Big fletching has to flex so super glue won't last. Blazers are stiff and regular glue doesn't hold tight enough.

I've been using Bohning "plantinum" glue with Blazer vanes for a couple of years and rarely have a problem with them coming off, even when I was using a Whisker Bisket rest. |
