Looks like someone rigged it up so it will accept the HK LMG bipod.

It's been awhile since I've seen one but it looks like the G3 heavy bipod to me.

Yep that's a HK heavy bipod. I think it slides over the barrel/trunion and is held in place by the two clamps that font into the receiver rails.

13K seems pretty high for non push-pin RR.

It is a G3 Heavy Bipod. This is a Very Sturdy Bipod for the G3.
Not much trouble to put on:
just take off the Slim Forearm, put the Bipod's open top up around the Barrel,
then slide it back onto the front of the Receiver, then Re-install the Slim Forearm,
then rotate the hooks of the Bipod into the Groove of the Receiver's side.
The legs Fold Foreward/Down, by pulling Down/Foreward on the Barrel on the Bipod Legs.
You can Only use this Bipod with the Slim Forearm (Wood or Plastic).

I think these were made before the Light Bipod, for the Wide Forearm

I wish I had never sold the set I had back in the late 80's,
and I would Love to have a set of these again

Yeah not a very desirable conversion

Excuse my ignorance, but is this thing a Machine gun or what. The guy says its a conversion, but its marked as a G3; so would someone have applied that marking after conversion or were early 91's imported with G3 markings? It doesn't have a push pin receiver or a paddle mag release either so I'm pretty damn confused about what it is exactly. Not that any of this really matters, but now I'm curious as hell.

It's a fairly uncommon MG conversion for HK's.
There's a guide to the HK conversions somewhere over on HKPro. I would refer you elsewhere but it's the only one I know.

FWIW, this is the bipod for the LMG/Belt fed version of the HK G3. Early version. I know a guy that owned one back in the day. It has the wrong HG though. the corect HG would allow the bipod to be moved to the fron of the HG or clamp to the rear. that is to allow the operator to place the bipod out front for longer range accuracy, or in close to allow the operator to engage targets tot he sides more easily. closer to muzzle is more acurate at distance, Nearer to shooter is eaier to point but much less accurate. Idea was taken from the WW2 MG-34. i used to have a bunch of old Soldier of Fortune mags from the 70's & 80's that had contined articles by Kokalis,a nd he did one on the HK (G21?)

Also FWIW, I got to shoot it and near the receiver it is worthless, turning the gun into little more than a short ranger bullet hose, which I bet is why it is not on the G3 or other-later rifles

It's a HK 91 that was remarked and converted with an unserialized auto sear. HK machine gun parts used to be hard to come by and it was easier installa sear in a modified trigger pack than it was to properly convert the receiver to a dual push pin configuration.

These type of conversions are probably the least desireable HK's since they conversion method is now considered improper and you can't swap the trigger pack out like you could with a dual PP RR.

So the sear is married to the host? that does suck, I mean especially with the cost of 7.62; full auto must be prohibitively expensive.

7.62 is rather pricey, but if you can drop 10-13K on a MG you can probably scrape enough coin together for a couple cases of ammo. The machinegun business isn't for the faint of heart or wallet.
