Very nice collection.

Now I can tell my friends I'm not crazy in having three Galils in my collection instead of one.

All beautiful pix. I never get tired of seeing the "extra touches" that creative people use to dress up this classic firearm.

There are lots o' Galil pix, but I thought this portion of the forum included Valmets too! I can't afford the real thing in 7.62 x 39, so here is a pic of a clone I made from a Norinco Hunter.

don't mind the PPSh in the pic

Hey, that's interesting: I did the same thing. Only I added a few other parts to the Valmet Hunter as well. The stock, I made myself.

Alright, I just looked through all five pages of Galil pics and have come to this conclusion....

I hate all of you!

Of course, after I finally find one for myself all will be forgiven.

Well, "hard" is a relative term:

The hard part was waiting. I had asked a fellow who had done some welding for me once before to do the basic part of putting the demillled Galil receiver stub on the back end of the Hunter. About that time his life got really complicated (got married of all things!), and so the project languished until I could find another welder who was also a gunsmith.

After that, things went pretty quickly. Hardest part after squaring off the receiver and attaching the Galil part was removing the Norinco front sight and gas block and replacing the gas block with a Galil block and then mounting & pinning the Valmet flash hider in place. Before the gas block went back on, though, the rear handguard bracket was put in place, as well as the front. The smith wasn't sure about how the front bracket was kept in place, so he fabricated a nut that is held in postion with a small set screw--almost impossible to see without looking hard.

Once the gas block & flash-hider were back in place, it was pretty much a matter of putting Valmet M-76 parts on it: handguards, pistol grip, & receiver cover.

The stock is a repro distributed by Jeff's Outfitters. I fitted it with a piece that I had saved from the stock of the Valmet Hunter (see pix of .308 M-76 nearby). This included a sort of "double-male" piece: one part of which went up into the rear of the Galil/Valmet receiver and the other up into a slot in the front edge of the buttstock. A long screw went into the rear of the buttstock and tightened into the rear of the transition piece. I'm not describing it very well, but it works better than I'm able to describe it!

Before painting it with GunKote and baking it, I had it parkerized.

Here is a pic of a project that I actually began after the M-76 clone, but finished it before the work could be completed on the first project. Recently able to trade for some original wooden handguards, which I think make it look classy!

Wives beware: this is what can happen when you leave your husband alone with a Norinco Hunter and do not supervise his time surfing the web!

Wyn

P.S. Any leads on an original M-71 or M-78 gas tube w/rear sight fixture would be much appreciated.

P.P.S Additional picture taken out of doors features left-hand side, showing characteristic Valmet-style mounting bracket on stock. One more picture of right-hand side as well

Modifications to my Valmet clone. Sold the M-76 handguards, took out small loan, and purchased unissued M-62 handguard.

Now it's an M-62S...ish.
